THAT DESPERATE PLACE – SARAH AND THE MOUSE

My niece, Sarah, had a little mouse around her house. Being an animal lover, she decided to let it be; After all, it was cute, right? But the mouse moved into the house and became a nuisance. It would wake Sarah up with its scratching in the middle of the night. She had to do something to get rid of it and tried everything she could think of and everything her family and friends suggested. The mouse, however, was clever and somehow managed to avoid every effort to get rid of him. She even got so exasperated that she tried the bee-bee gun and a machete! This craziness went on for four months until Sarah was at her wit's end. She wasn’t sleeping, and what was once a cute little mouse was now much bigger and devilishly scary.

Sarah told me later that she recalled me telling her that God cared about every detail of her life. She didn’t want to bother the Lord with something so minor, but after four months of not sleeping, she was desperate to find a solution to getting rid of the mouse; she was ready to try anything. That night she prayed to God, and when she woke the next morning, one of her traps she’d been trying all this time, finally caught the culprit.

God answered Sarah’s desperation and fixed the problem.

So often we try to fix our problems without consulting the Lord. It’s not that we won’t have to do our part in the fixing process; it’s just that God has the perfect solution and the perfect timing, and often we don’t.

The Lord wants to help us, but it’s our job to ask. Revelation 3:20 says: “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him and will sup with him, and he with me.” Jesus comes to the door, but he doesn’t break and enter. He waits for us to come to the door and open it!

Did you invite Him to come in and help you with anything today? No? Okay, then get on it. You’re not asleep yet!

# IT’S IN THE BIBLE (2) – MOLECH TODAY

The evil god, Molech, (Moloch), required child sacrifice from those who worshipped him. In Old Testament times, cultures all around God’s people worshipped Molech, and so did some of the Israelites surrender their children to his fiery arms. God said don’t do this: “And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech” (Lev. 18:21). Child sacrifice, including killing a child before birth, is not justified in the Bible. God’s Word says children are a blessing, but our actions say we don’t believe it. We’ve come up with all kinds of “reasonable” rebuttals as to why we aren’t carrying out God’s will concerning children.

Good Christians and non-Christians alike have been duped by the media and society into thinking acceptable answers to why abort, are things like: “I’m not ready to be a mother,” I’m not ready to have a family,” “I’m not sure I even love this person,” “I can’t afford to have a child right now,” and so many other answers that sounded so right-on. We are responsible for our actions, but I think that with abortion, we have been cleverly manipulated away from the truth and tricked by the spirit of Molech in our societies, to think it’s really okay. I still believe rape or a life-threatening situation for the mother justifies an abortion, but that’s about it.

I don’t blame the people who let themselves get talked into abortions, but I do blame those who did the subversive manipulating and those who let it slide. We need to repent.

Abortion is just one aspect of child sacrifice to Baal. We’ve seen virgin sacrifice all through history, in Mesopotamia, Africa, Mayan, and Inca cultures, and it is practiced today throughout the world, in Europe as well as in the United States, at the highest levels.

Just recently in Arkansas, a sculpture of the Ten Commandments was destroyed and replaced with a statue of Moloch. Moloch’s image is a hollow brazen figure, with the head of an ox with big horns, and outstretched human arms. It was heated red-hot by fire from within, and the little ones placed in its arms to be slowly burned, while to prevent their parents from hearing their dying cries, the sacrificing priests beat drums.

Moloch was the god of the Ammonites and Phoenicians. This same god was known as Saturn in Carthage, which was founded in the 9^th century BC by the Phoenician city of Tyre. Carthage is in Tunisia (just across from Italy). Both the god Moloch and the god Saturn represented the planet Saturn, which was regarded by the Phoenician-Semetic nations as a kakodaimonos (evil spirit) to be appeased by human sacrifice. This child sacrificing practice was carried over into Italy and to Rome. If you want to know more about the practices centering around Moloch and the history, there is an excellent source: a free book online by Charles Rollin called The Ancient History of The Egyptians, Carthaginians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Medes And Persians, Macedonians And Grecians.

In Leviticus where it says not to let any child pass through the fire to Molech, it also says: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion” (Lev. 18:22-23). And what does God say is the result of these actions: “The land is defiled and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants” (v.25). People just want to be loved and to do the right things, but we’ve been tricked into doing things that are unnatural, by demons and demon-inspired, and demon-possessed people. Hosea 4:6 tells us: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Now, I am giving some of you new knowledge you didn’t have before, from the Bible, God’s book of Life. God is a merciful, loving God and He will take us back if we repent and come back to Him.

In Jeremiah 7:31 we are told that the people once again turned from God. They “have built the high places in the valley of Hinnom, to burn their sons and daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not.” The next few chapters go on to say what the result was, and again, the land suffered, the animals and vegetation suffered. “How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? The beasts are consumed, and the birds; Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness. They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate because no man layeth it to heart” (Jer. 12:4,10-11).

The sacrifice of human unborn, babies, children and adults is A BIG DEAL! People are horrified by what’s happening on the earth to animals, trees, the weather, and other humans. The sacrifice of so many children sends the message of death to every living creation on earth, under the earth, and in the sea. If mankind is willing to sacrifice his own progeny, then how can the rest of creation respond? All creation on earth is under the care of the humanity that lives here. Think about it.

BUT GOD! We need to repent for what we’ve done and what we’ve allowed. God forgives ALL our sins, including murder, and He is willing to give us a new start. And heal our land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

We need to take a close look at what we’ve done and what we’ve supported, because those who are pushing abortion and keep supporting it, are bowing to the modern-day Moloch. Moloch is a horrible demon, with a voracious appetite for the innocent young ones.

Let’s take a stand against this evil living power; fight it; and take it down. Let’s support new families and do what we can, including prayer for the protection and health of the children.

EARS, EYES, AND MOUTH

Everybody was in a frenzy to get all thirteen large sample pieces loaded on the truck. The noise level escalated, and I was trying to finish my paperwork at a table in the same room. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore and went to the locker with the earplugs and grabbed the purple ones. I’d never tried them before. They were amazing! In just a couple seconds all the voices disappeared. It was great.

What do I hear, see and say? I remember a picture of three monkeys, the first covered his ears, the second, his eyes and the third, his mouth. It was labeled, HEAR NO EVIL, SEE NO EVIL, SPEAK NO EVIL. I quickly drew my version for painters like myself.

In the construction industry, it can get uproarious and sometimes I don’t want to participate. It’s good to look someone directly in the eyes when they’re speaking, but if they’re speaking nonsense or garbage, instead of trying to correct them (which isn’t my job), I look away and they hardly even notice.

I’m not antisocial, but I am responsible to God and the Lord Jesus Christ to do my best not to get wrapped up with the things of the world. I try to keep myself somewhat apart from the extreme craziness when it happens.

God says something about this right in the beginning of the Bible: “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested” (Gen. 2:3). The word sanctified is the Hebrew word “qadash” which means “to be set apart.” The only way to have true rest in our current world is to be set apart unto God. Keeping watch over what comes into my ears, into my eyes and out of my mouth helps me do this.

Second Timothy 2:21 tells us that if a person purges himself from those things that are dishonorable, “he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.” That’s what we want.

David spoke these words: “Turn my eyes away from vanity [all those worldly, meaningless things that distract—let Your priorities be mine], and restore me [with renewed energy] in Your ways” (Ps. 119:37 AMP).

The Lord wants us to strive to be holy in all aspects of our lives. That’s why He inspired Paul to write First Corinthians 3:16: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth [is dwelling] in you?”

And in Romans 12:1-2: “I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Though my cartoon above is for painters like me, in the construction industry, the principles are the same for all Christians. It’s our responsibility to do our best in the natural, but beyond that, it’s our privilege to ask the Lord to help us, because there’s no way we can’t do it without Him.

MY BEST WELLS

There are so many great people preaching the gospel online and elsewhere, we ask ourselves, “What’s best for me?” Last week I showed you in the Bible how familiar spirits can connect us to the wrong people. But today I want to show you how it’s the Holy Spirit that connects us to the right ones. Genesis 25:11 tells us Isaac was settled near Beer-Lahairoi (“the well of the Living One who sees me”). He raised his sons there and had a good life, but then “there was a famine in the land” (Gen. 26:1). And that was the beginning of his next journey.

No matter where we are on our spiritual journey, we all have felt the famine a time or two. It’s when we feel we lack something necessary for the abundant life God promises us in the Bible. We feel we don’t know enough about healing; we don’t have the skills to deliver people from demons; we don’t have the loving human relationship we seek. We’ve all been there. When famine hit Isaac, he knew he had to move. He trusted God. He needed to find a new well for his life. One of the keys to walking by the Spirit is trusting God, and not automatically going where others have gone.

When Isaac’s father, Abraham, was in famine, he went to Egypt, so Isaac would have thought to do the same. But God specifically told Isaac: “Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of” (Gen. 26:2).

We have Holy Spirit in us, and if we are willing to be led by God’s spirit, rather than our own will, He will show us where to go physically, like with Isaac, or in these days, in traversing the highways of the internet.

Isaac had a big need, but his journey with God was different from Abraham’s. When you listen to different Bible people on the internet, the Holy Spirit within you will resonate with what certain people are saying, and not resonate with others. We need to take a look to test it and catch it as quickly as we can, so we don’t waste time with preachers and teachers that are not part of our path right now.

God told Isaac to go to where the Philistines were, in Gerar, which was North, the opposite direction from Egypt, which was South. He went, and he prospered. “Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds and great store of husbandry: and the Philistines envied him: (Gen. 26:12-14).

Isaac prospered in Gerar, but now he was in another type of famine. The people around him were not favorably responding to him anymore. It became time for him to move on. He had a big need for water for all his responsibilities: the people and animals who relied on him. He tried to dig in the old wells, but “the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth” (v.15).

Then Isaac found what he thought was a great well of water. “And Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and found there a well of springing water” (v. 19). “Springing water” is “living water.” Verse 20 says: “And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, ‘The water is ours.’”  Isaac had to keep moving.

This part of the story is so amazing and pertinent. Isaac found living water, good water, and others said it was theirs. He called the well, “Esek,” because there was contention there. It wasn’t for him at this time. So he kept looking. He dug another well, and again, it wasn’t good for him. Then he dug another well, and the Philistines finally let him be. It was good for the time being, but the journey continued. Eventually, Isaac left the wells he dug for the Philistines, and he went East to Beersheba and dug a new well, where he stayed and prospered.

When we feel like we are in any kind of famine or lack in any matter of life, we need to keep moving until we find something that truly resonates with our Spirit, something that feels totally right. We check it out with God and test it. Then if it doesn’t really resonate in our heart, and if it’s not giving us the living water we need, we have to be willing to move on.

One of the great things about the story of Isaac and the Philistines is that after Isaac moved to his well in Beersheba, the Philistines came to him.

“And Isaac said unto them, ‘Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me and have sent me away from you?’ And they said, ‘We saw certainly that the Lord was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us.’” (vv. 27-28). And he [Isaac] made then a feast, and they did eat and drink” (v. 30).

Walking by the spirit of God is a marvelous journey. Let’s be sensitive to where we are on the journey and sensitive to the urging to move on if need be. Let’s not criticize others on their journey or doubt our own. Instead of getting mad at others who aren’t on our same journey, let’s let God play it out and let’s be willing to feast with all the body of Christ in the end, (or along the journey, any time we can.)

A FEW MORE THINGS ABOUT FAMILIAR SPIRITS

Familiar spirits aren’t going to want to leave you. How do I know this? The Hebrew word “shalom” is connected to the meaning for the word. They are perfectly at peace with hanging out with a believer and to do what Satan has called them to do – summon other spirits to plague you.

Another part of their definition is that they are blood-thirst and wicked (but we knew that, right?)

When people are not in the practice of going to the Bible for answers, or they don’t know Jesus as their personal Lord, they may think a psychic can help or direct them. King Saul went to see the woman who had a familiar spirit when he could no longer get revelation from the true God:

“And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled.  And when Saul enquired of the Lord, the Lord answered him not. Then said Saul unto his servants, ‘Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her’” (1 Sam. 28:5-7).

Had Saul repented and gone back to the Lord, he may have been saved, but because he went to another source for help, he brought doom to himself, his family and his country.

The familiar spirit knew Saul had incidents of tremendous fear, so the spirit stirred up that fear. The woman told Saul what Satan had planned for him. She brought up a spirit imitating Saul’s old mentor, Samuel, and in Samuel’s voice she told Saul: “The Lord will also deliver Israel with thee, into the hand of the Philistines: and tomorrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me.” Where was Samuel? Dead!

If Saul was afraid of the Philistines before he went to see the psychic, he was even more terrified now. This bad news from a fake image of Samuel, pushed him over the edge, and sure enough, he was killed, his sons were killed, and his whole country was taken over by the Philistines.

People escape bad relationships, then a while later they go back, or they get attracted to a different person with the same abusive characteristics. Why? Because familiar spirits operating. Familiar spirits recognize companion spirits and co-dependent ones. They work to connect people who will disappoint each other, mistreat each other, or maybe just bore each other. Familiar spirits work for Satan and will always devise some negative plan.

Let’s get rid of them, and the minions they summon to make our lives miserable.

Jesus came to earth to show us what to do:

“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth” (Phil. 2:8-10).

The name of Jesus Christ is above the name: “familiar spirit,” or any other spirit, for that matter. Evil spirits must bow and obey when we use His name against them. And another verse that gives us authority is James 4:7: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” The best resistance is the powerful name of Jesus Christ.

FAMILIAR, BUT NOT YOUR FRIEND

Familiar spirits are spirits that are familiar with you. They are evil and concentrate on weakness in your character, bringing in other spirits that Satan uses to hurt you. Familiar spirits know your parents, your grandparents, all your family history. They know what illnesses you may be prone to. They know how you act when you’ve had one too many shots of Jack Daniels. They know your triggers. They know what sets you off, what makes you angry, what makes you sad and what makes you sick. They are familiar, but they are not your friends. God has given us the truth about familiar spirits, and He’s given us a way to get rid of them.

God tells us to stay away from them: “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the. Lord your God” (Lev. 19:31). Real psychics operate by communicating with familiar spirits. When you go to a psychic, they tap into the unseen world and hear from the familiar spirits that have been watching and influencing you and your family for a lifetime and longer. A familiar spirit that followed your grandfather can tell the psychic exactly what your grandfather might tell you right now if he was alive. The psychic may even be able to know the exact phrases he would use and the psychic can even channel a similar dialect and the voice of your grandfather as well.

So what’s so bad about that? Satan uses just enough right stuff to get you to believe that the psychic knows you and can even see into your future. Then they’ve got you. Then the psychic can predict something for you.

But what do they predict? They now know enough from the familiar spirits, to know what kind of things you’ll believe. They will say some promising things, but they’ll also say things to mislead you and get you to walk into Satan’s traps.

Remember, your familiar spirits are only there to bring you harm, as much as the devil demands of them.

“All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, ‘Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him’” (Jer. 20:10). Why revenge? Because if you are following the teaching of the Bible, then the devil hates you because he hates the true God and he gets at God by going after God’s people.

How do the familiar spirits operate? They are like the coaches on the devil’s football team. They call certain evil spirits onto the field when they see there’s an open door. For example, when things go badly at work, they may call in spirits of dread or rejection and fear, whatever they know from the past, of things that work negatively on you. Hypothetically they may say, “Hey, spirit of dread, come on over in the morning when he’s half asleep and lay heavy on him. He’s in the perfect frame of mind for you to really get some influence. You’re going to love it.” Or for another person, maybe it’s hypochondria. “Hey, spirit of infirmity, Jesse is starting to see some people getting sick around him. Just get a few of them to come by and cough a little. I’m sure that’s just the trigger that will get Jesse to take the sickness. He’ll have pneumonia in a week, just like the last time.”

Familiar spirits know exactly what spirits to call into their game, to block us or hurt us. They feed off our weakest mental, emotional and physical characteristics, calling in other evil spirit players to “steal, and to kill, and to destroy us,” as Jesus said in John 10:10, the first part of that verse. Just to name a few of those demons: cancer, arthritis, oppression, jealousy, covetousness, anger, depression, low self-esteem, addictions, arrogance, pride, rejection, viciousness, apathy, and on and on. All these spirits were cast out of heaven when Lucifer turned against God. But God had a plan for us and a way to send those spirits packing.

When I first learned about familiar spirits being the ones who rally up the demon troops against us, I heard that the familiar spirits hang around us all our lives, so I thought that we couldn’t get rid of them. Also, I falsely believed that we only had one. After studying the Bible, I saw that the familiar spirits are usually in groups. So if you get rid of one, beware, because you may have to get rid of more.

Then I woke up to the truth of Philippians 2:10 and James 4:7. “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.” And, “submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Neither of these verses says that familiar spirits are excluded from the demons that must bow and flee.

If I am resisting and rebuking any kind of spirit, and the Bible says it has to flee, then familiar spirits have to flee as well. And as I’ve shown you in other preach letters, if a spirit doesn’t obey, it’s off to chains of outer darkness with no “get free cards!”

So I did it. I rebuked a familiar spirit that kept calling in a spirit of dread. I ended up having to give it a one-way ticket to chains of outer darkness, and it has never bothered me since. Praise God.

I hope you’ll think about this, recognize spirits being summoned into your life and kicking them out along with the familiar spirit that keeps bringing them in. Freedom is that close.

Jesus said: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Part of the more than abundant life is getting free from those familiar spirits. Let’s make them far away strangers instead!

MAKING A DELIGHT LIST

A couple months ago my roommate Jane started a “Delight List” and every day, by the end of the day, she’d have something to put on the list. Sometimes it seemed small, like not being put in Facebook jail, but with her posting every day, believe me, not having to go through the Facebook jail thing is a BIG delight!

Just a few minutes ago the Lord reminded me of her insistence on having at least one “delight” to put on that list every day. So I began to go through some of my recent photos and now I’m smiling again and not tense like I was before.

I was reminded that on Sunday I was wanting some kind of sweet treat but not too sweet and didn’t find anything in the kitchen. I got a knock on the door, peeked out the window and it was my Cuban neighbor in her nightgown. I quickly opened the door, thinking she may be in trouble and needed our help. Nope. She came over to bring us a box of pastries from her favorite Cuban bakery in LA!

Then I remembered that on Sunday I also found $10 on the ground and no one around claiming it. Then my list got longer. I took pictures yesterday after work of my newly planted Cape Myrtle and Redbud trees. My friend Judith had given them to me five years ago and they were only 4-inch twigs at the time. I babied them all these years and finally this past Fall I planted them in the back yard. Last year the Cape Myrtle had only two flowers. But this year I stopped counting at 27. The flowers are an unusual color, kind of lilac and I love them. Since it’s so hot here, I go out every day after work to water those two pals.

I also looked at the photos of the recent cement rocks that Hector carved at work and I painted. I like the way they turned out. I really enjoy making things look as real as possible.

The four other things that are making me smile right now are: 1. The adoration of our old cat, Snickers, 2. The love and playfulness of our little dog Peanut, 3. The kindness of my best friend Jane, and 4. The blessing of the Lord to remind me of things to be delighted about.

Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Today I was delighted that the Lord reminded me of Jane’s Delight List. The results made my day!
