PEACE, NOT PANIC

PEACE, NOT PANIC

Last Sunday, I wrote my Christian Living blog about Jesus taking away Satan’s jabs at our peace.

Jesus delivered us from the “chastisement of our peace,” as it says in Isaiah 53:5, but we must believe it and receive it into our daily reality. Here’s a real-life example of how it can work. Jesus quickly intervened in a stressful situation, and I went instantly from panic to peace.

I was struggling with my new computer. It was the day before I needed to write my weekly blog. One of the platforms I use is Facebook, and another is Blogger.com.  I couldn’t get either one to come up on the new computer, and I was starting to freak out. My brain was racing wildly as I tried to get Facebook to accept my new password. It wouldn’t, so I tried an old one, but with no success, so I tried to apply for a new one. I opted for a text with a code, but when they said they had sent it to my phone, it never came! I was getting frantic, and I was running out of time.

I looked at the password I used, and it looked a little strange, so I tried adding what I thought I may have missed. But still, nothing worked, and my blood pressure must have been skyrocketing. I could feel the pinching tenseness all over my body. My shoulders hunched, my forehead furrowed; I was overheated, emotionally overwhelmed, and felt like I was tumbling down a dark hole in utter panic.

Then my best friend Jane calmly and quietly intervened, “Can you do your blog on your old computer?” (Of course I could, but I was in such a panic, I just couldn’t see any answer.) When God inspired Jane to ask a simple question, it was like a switch turned on, and instantly, I froze in time. My shoulders relaxed, and I felt a unique pouring of peace over my whole being. Yes, my old computer wasn’t completely broken, and I could still use it to launch my blog. All the stress fell away, and I experienced perfect peace.

That’s God’s way! With just the flip of His heavenly switch, He inspired Jane to ask a simple question in a quiet voice, and all stress had to leave.

God’s kind of peace washed over me, pure and clear, settling restfully on me and throughout my entire body. All the stabbing pains of stress were like knives being pulled out and thrown far off in the distance. There was not even a trace left behind. My mind and body felt like healing oil had been poured over me, and God’s deliverance was complete. I had peace.

The Lord knows that Satan will try to talk us out of maintaining our God-given peace in this world. Working through a trusted Christian friend is one of the many ways the Lord used to restore that unique supernatural peace.

John 16:33 tells us: “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” When tribulation comes, we need to catch ourselves as quickly as possible and remind ourselves that Jesus overcame tribulation and stress with a supernatural peace of knowing and claiming that we overcome panic with peace, because we are overcomers. Like Jesus, we refuse to be victims of panic, stress, or fear brought on by Satan. We are not to be “conformed to [the hurtful attacks of] this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Rom. 12:2).

Even in bad situations, we call in peace, like Jesus did with a boisterous storm on the lake of Galilee. He claimed the peace and it came: “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, “Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:39).

Join me in making a concerted effort to take a deep breath and immediately claim “I have PEACE now!” when I catch myself starting to get nervous, stressed out, fearful, or in a panic. Our heavenly Father, God, gave us peace through the death and resurrection of His only begotten son, Jesus, the Christ, and we have decided to give Him the honor and glory He deserves. We embrace His PEACE now in every stressful situation, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we don’t let go!

TAKING AWAY THE CHASTISEMENT OF OUR PEACE

TAKING AWAY THE CHASTISEMENT OF OUR PEACE

First thing this morning, I got a text from a friend in Chicago, reading: “HE LIVES!” What a wonderful truth. And because we believe he lives and have taken Jesus Christ as our Lord, we are sons and daughters of God. We have received supernatural status and all the benefits of having the spirit of Christ in us. Does Satan want us to experience the benefits? Absolutely not. Satan’s greatest joy is to destroy God’s people, and he has many ways to do it.

Today, in this season of Easter, we are reminded that all the evils the devil tries to carry out on mankind have been supernaturally wiped out by the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Isaiah 53 is one place in the Bible where we go to see many of the things Jesus conquered as he became a human sacrifice for our sins and then defeated death itself, all for God and for us.

Today, I want to look at one of the things, “the chastisement of our peace was upon him” (Isa. 53:5b). What does it mean? I looked up the Hebrew word for chastisement to find the answer. In many scriptures using the word chastisement, it’s talking about God correcting His people, and that’s a good thing. However, the Hebrew word is also used in Jeremiah 30:14, which talks about the chastisement of a cruel one, Literally with blows, thrashings, and beatings. This is the kind of chastisement Isaiah 53:5 is referring to.

So, how does that relate to the chastisement of our peace”? God wants us always to be able to grab onto peace of mind, even in bad situations. In Psalm 23:4, David tells us: “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.”

Satan is always trying to attack our right to have peace of mind. He says, “No! You can’t have peace; you have to worry, fear, be stressed out, be depressed.  You can’t have peace of mind when things are going so wrong for you and your loved ones.” That is Satan chastising us by pounding us with stressful incidents, scary incidents, hard choices to make, problems that seem impossible to solve, and a multitude of other negative peace breakers.

But Satan is a liar! Jesus took all Satan’s chastisements (beatings) for us and nailed them to the cross. Then he rose again to continue to help us every day to say no to the beatings! In place of the stress, the depression, worry, and fear, Jesus gave us supernatural spiritual peace. It’s different; it’s not natural; sometimes, it doesn’t even seem to make sense at all, but we’ve got it. That’s because we choose to live in a supernatural realm where Jesus is Lord, and God is our spiritual heavenly Father, and the kingdom is not regulated by the devil and his bashings, but a loving Father and His living son, Jesus, the Messiah.

We’ve been delivered from Satan’s chastisement of our peace, and we won’t take it anymore. Jesus gave us a very special supernatural peace. It is his peace! It is a living peace! He said: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7). This is the kind of peace we can claim as believers. It’s a special kind of peace that may seem inappropriate for the situation, but it is vital to our spiritual, physical, and mental health.

We thank you, God, for exhibiting peace in our lives today, in the wonderful name of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.

WE ARE NOT RABID DOGS

 WE ARE NOT RABID DOGS

We’ve all made the mistake of thinking we could go back to an old job, an old relationship, a place we once lived, and think it will be better the second time around. Let me give you an example, and then let’s see what the Lord has to say about such situations.

Jane met a young girl at work whose boyfriend beat her. One day she showed up at work so scraped up she couldn’t move her fingers. He’d thrown her out of a moving car. Jane called a battered women’s shelter. The counselor on the phone stopped the conversation and started counseling Jane. She told her she shouldn’t even get involved at this point because the average battered woman leaves 7 times before she leaves for good. The counselor told Jane it was classic for a third party to get involved to try to help, and all that happens is that they get in the middle of the couple, and the woman defends the abuser. The counselor said getting involved never does any good until the woman seeks help for herself.

God talks about this kind of thing in Proverbs 26:11-12: “As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.” I looked up the expression about a dog returning to its own vomit and found that the Bible is talking about rabid dogs. In the East, troops of fierce half-famished dogs without masters are often wandering around the towns and villages.

They eat anything they can find. Anyone who has cats and dogs for pets knows that the silly dog will find great treasures in the cat box, as disgusting as that is! Dogs will eat poop. There, I said it. A dog will eat its own vomit if it’s hungry enough, as these rabid dogs do. There are other references to dogs in the Bible as well. These talk about the packs of dogs eating a dead person. Disgusting but true.

2 Kings 9:10: “And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her.”

1 Kings 14:11: “Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat.”

1 Kings 16:4: “Him that dieth of Baasha in the city shall the dogs eat.”

The Lord uses these examples to make a point: The people who stayed in a bad place for them, didn’t even get a proper burial, but were eaten by rabid dogs. That’s sad.

Don’t be enticed into going back into a situation that has hurt you before. We need to get honest with ourselves and ask ourselves why we want to go back. Is it really the Lord’s will? Have we taken the time to have a conversation with the Lord and ask Him? Or, are we being manipulated or enticed by lies or maybe being bewitched by a memory? Think about it: The food the dog ate was fresh at first. But it’s no longer fresh when it comes out – it’s waste. It’s dead and deadly. Toxic! It’s not what it used to be! And yet, the dog goes back and eats it!

Wild, rabid dogs will eat their own vomit and will eat what is dead. We don’t have to do that. We can be free.

Admitting we have to leave or can’t go back to a person, place, or situation isn’t failure; it’s deliverance!

Proverbs 3:6 tells us: “In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Prov. 3:6).

God’s will is that we are blessed, not stressed. That’s why He warns us about not being tricked into going back to things that are done or decaying, but instead reach out to Him because He will gladly direct us into His ways The Lord’s ways will make us strong, not stressed.

“For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall” (Ps. 18:29).

“They that wait [rely] upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles” (Isa. 40:31a).

HEALING AND WISDOM

HEALING AND WISDOM

My job was to do touchups in the penthouse rooms at one of the local hotels. My knee started hurting, then my thigh, then my back. I forgot to just ask for wisdom from the Lord on what it was and what to do to make it go away. I took ibuprofen and was handling it myself. The pain subsided somewhat, but it wasn’t going away. I persevered on my own for about two weeks, and it was wearing me down. I finally woke up spiritually, took it to the Lord, and asked my roommate Jane to pray for me. I went off to work like every other day. Only this day, I got the revelation of what was causing my pain and the revelation of how to get rid of it.

As I sat down on the floor to patch and touch up the baseboard and then crawled along to the next spot, I got the Lord’s news flash, and I understood. I was sitting in a scrunched-down position with both legs tucked under me to the side, and I was bent over. I put my legs on the other side, and the same exact pinch happened on the other side, and I realized I’d been sitting and crawling in this position for about two weeks, 7 hours a day. No wonder I was having pinches and pain! I made a conscious effort to change how I was positioning myself, and the pain dissipated and then was totally gone.

Just because you don’t have an instant miracle of healing doesn’t mean the Lord is not healing you. He’s given us many ways to get pain-free and healed.

God designed our bodies to heal themselves. If we take care of our bodies, natural healing comes faster.

Also, I’ve learned that certain sicknesses, diseases, and demons require specific environments to thrive in, so changing our body’s environment on the inside with food, frequencies, acidity, thought patterns, and other things like that, can cause the disease to die or the destructive evil spirit to leave.

There’s much to learn about healing, but whenever we get sick, there is always one thing we should do first: take it to the Lord in prayer. Ask Him, “Do I need to have someone pray for me? Should I go to the doctor? Lord, what’s going on, and what should I do?”

We ask for His wisdom on what to do to get healed. 3 John 1:2 tells us God’s will concerning our health: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” The Lord wants us to be healthy, so He’s glad to give us His wisdom on how to get there and stay there, too.

James 3:17 says: “The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” And James 4:2 says: “Ye have not, because ye ask not.” So, we need to ask.

If we’re unsure about hearing from the Lord or what we think He answered, then we can ask a trusted Christian friend to corroborate or at least pray.

God says of himself: “I am the Lord that healeth thee” (Ex 15:27). Whether it be through a miracle, a doctor, a prescription, a dietary plan, the words you speak, or just changing your position on the floor like I had to do, a healthy body and a sound mind are important in our Lord’s good plan for our lives.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

(2Tim. 1:7). Claim it, believe it, and live it.

Love, Carolyn
